This week’s photo is actually a series of nine photographs shot by Duane Michael in 1973. Each photograph is part of a bigger narrative and all the photographs build upon the previous ones in surprising and unexpected ways.
Robert Motherwell, 20th-century American painter once said that art is an experience, not an object.
Things are Queer by Duane Michals provides the viewer with an experience. There isn’t a lot to write about this image – this one, in my humble opinion, is just about experiencing it.
Big part of learning photography is looking at work from other photographers and allowing it to expand our perspectives and visual vocabularies. This Week’s Photo is a new series in which I’ll be exploring images from other photographers and some discussion around that image. I hope you’ll find this weekly series useful – and if not useful, at least I hope you’ll have fun looking at curated images from amazing photographers
