I know your are probably saying this jest but thank you Stuff.co.nz for judging and shaming my Wanaka Tree photo that I’ve never taken and you’ve never seen.
I don’t want to keep on this point for too long – but what’s up with this need for Stuff to highlight great work of some photographers by casually putting down the work of others? Can we all just not get along? Do we need to put down the photography on our left for the photography on our right to rise up? Can the photography on the right not rise up on its own? What’s up with this need to compare work?
I hate to berate Stuff for something as seemingly simple as this (when I could be berating Stuff for a lot of other things) but by doing so I’m defending the amateur in me and my work. I’d hate for someone just getting started in photography to take the work of photographers mentioned by Stuff as a yardstick for measuring their own work. That won’t be right or fair. After all, the only comparison that is fair is the one we do with our work from the past. No comparison with others could ever be fair.
That’s my rant over for now. I am – and will remain a passionate defender of artists and photographers who do honest and authentic work. I just couldn’t let Stuff have a casual dig at us.
P.S: The work of the photographers mentioned by Stuff is indeed stunning. You can check them out at: https://www.facebook.com/SouthofHome/
